Watch as we make charcoal using the same techniques they used at Furnace Town.
We'll fell several hardwood trees, and cut them into billets and lapwood. Then we will build a "pit" and begin the slow process of making charcoal. This is a four day process with most of the hard work done the first day.
Charcoal was the only fuel that could be used successfully in a blast furnace. The site for the Nassawango Iron Furnace was carefully selected because the location provided the necessary natural resources. Abundant bog ore and hardwood forest provided the iron and fuel.
