Furnace Town Living Heritage Village Photography Contest
Capture the past in the present and join us in creating our 2027 calendar. Furnace Town invites photographers of all levels to take part in our Photography Contest celebrating the people, places, and traditional crafts of our 19th‑century village.
Who can enter
Open to amateur and professional photographers.
Participants of all ages welcome.
Themes and categories
Historic Structures and Landscape: Nassawango Iron Furnace, village buildings, and grounds.
Living Traditions: artisans at work (blacksmithing, broom making, weaving, spinning, woodworking, printing, gardening, school teaching).
People and Portraits: visitors, staff, volunteers, and candid scenes of village life.
Interpretive/Creative: mood, detail, and abstract views that evoke the village’s heritage.
Image requirements
File format: JPEG.
Images should be original, taken by the entrant, and not previously published in contest-winning form.
Photographs may be color or black-and-white.
Submission guidelines
Limit of 3 entries per person; include a category for each entry.
Provide title, location within Furnace Town (if applicable), date taken, and a brief caption (25–50 words) describing the image and its connection to the village and why you chose it.
Entries must be submitted via Google Doc link or QR code, or on a USB drive delivered in person.
Label each submission with entrant name, contact information, and entry title.
Deadline and schedule
Submission deadline: September 15, 2026, 5:00 PM.
Winners announced in the last week of October 2026.
Winning images will be displayed in the Furnace Town 2027 calendar and may be featured in site publications and social media with credit to the photographer.
Judging criteria
Technical quality: exposure, focus, composition.
Interpretation of theme: relevance and storytelling.
Creativity and originality.
Overall impact.
Rights and usage
Entrants retain copyright to their images.
By entering, photographers grant Furnace Town a nonexclusive, royalty‑free license to use submitted images for promotional purposes, print, and web display, with credit.
Photographs will not be sold without permission.
Permissions and safety
Respect artisans, staff, and visitors. Ask permission before photographing people up close, especially children.
Follow all site rules and posted safety guidelines. Do not enter restricted areas or interfere with demonstrations
